Who actually teaches the mortgage licensing course in your province?

Course names change from Ontario to Alberta to Québec, but a handful of providers — Mortgage Professionals Canada chief among them — teach most of the country. Here's the approved-provider map, province by province.

Key takeaways

  • Mortgage Professionals Canada (MPC) is the sole approved course provider named by the regulator in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador, and one of several approved providers in Ontario.
  • Ontario has four FSRA-approved Level 1 education programs — Mortgage Professionals Canada, CMBA-Ontario, REMIC, and Humber Polytechnic — giving Ontario applicants more provider choice than most provinces.
  • British Columbia's course is run entirely through UBC Sauder School of Business, and a new Mortgage Services Licensing Course opens for registration August 4, 2026 to replace the current pre-MSA course.
  • Alberta's Mortgage Associates Program is delivered by two RECA-recognized providers — the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association and Alberta Real Estate School — and Québec recognizes its own distinct list of in-person and online AMF training providers.

Every Canadian mortgage regulator requires an approved education program before licensing, but who's allowed to teach that program varies a lot by province. Some provinces name a single provider; others approve several competing schools.

This is a map of who teaches what, sourced directly from each regulator's own approved-provider list and the providers' own course pages — useful whether you're choosing a course for the first time or wondering why a colleague in another province mentions a name you've never heard of.

01 · Which providers does FSRA approve for the Ontario mortgage agent course?

FSRA names four approved education programs for the Mortgage Agent Level 1 licence: Mortgage Professionals Canada, the Canadian Mortgage Brokers Association—Ontario, the Real Estate and Mortgage Institute of Canada (REMIC), and Humber Polytechnic. The Level 2 (Private Mortgages) course narrows to three of those — MPC, CMBA-Ontario, and REMIC — without Humber. Course completion has to fall within two years of applying for the corresponding licence.

For the mortgage broker upgrade course, FSRA's 2021 accreditation guidance describes a single competitively procured provider, but both MPC (its Ontario Mortgage Broker Education Program) and REMIC (its own Mortgage Broker Course) currently market broker-upgrade courses as FSRA-approved. FSRA's own 'become a mortgage broker' page doesn't name a single exclusive provider, so confirm current status directly with FSRA before assuming only one school qualifies.

03 · Who does the AMF recognize to teach Québec's mortgage brokerage qualification program?

The AMF maintains its own list of recognized training providers for the Mortgage Brokerage Qualification Program, split between in-person (Montréal-area) and online delivery. In-person: Académie de l'entrepreneurship québécois (delisted as a recognized provider effective March 1, 2026 — training already completed there remains valid for two years), Cégep régional de Lanaudière, and Collège Maisonneuve. Online: the same Académie (same delisting date), Collège d'Enseignement en Immobilier (CEI), Collège des professions financières (which explicitly offers training in English), Mortgage Professionals Canada, and PerFormation.

04 · How many provinces does Mortgage Professionals Canada actually operate in?

  • Entry-level/upgrade licensing courses: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Québec, and Saskatchewan.
  • Continuing-education/re-licensing courses: British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Québec, and Saskatchewan.

That footprint makes MPC the only provider offering licensing courses in nearly every province, in contrast to REMIC, which is primarily an Ontario-focused, FSRA-licensed provider with only a Québec continuing-education offering outside Ontario — not a full pre-licensing course there.

05 · How should you choose between providers where more than one is approved?

Ontario and Québec are the two provinces where applicants actually choose between multiple approved providers. Factors worth comparing include format (in-class, live webcast, or self-paced online), price, and how the enrolment window and exam attempts are structured. For the format decision specifically, see Online vs. In-Class Mortgage Courses.
