Does CREA have a position on AI?

Yes, published on its own site — and it leans on rules the REALTOR® Code already had.

Treadstone Associates · Updated 2026

Short answer

Yes. CREA's published position asks for AI use guided by transparency, accuracy and accountability, states that AI adoption does not reduce a REALTOR®'s professional responsibilities, and ties the whole thing back to two articles the REALTOR® Code already had before AI existed. It also says CREA is still developing fuller resources, so treat this as a starting position, not a finished framework.

What the page actually says

CREA’s Artificial Intelligence page opens with the plain statement that the association “recognizes the importance of supporting REALTORS® with recommendations for the responsible use of AI within the real estate sector,” and that use “must be guided by transparency, accuracy and accountability — core values that ensure REALTORS® earn and maintain consumer trust and confidence.” The operative line for accountability: “the adoption of AI does not alleviate the professional responsibilities of REALTORS®. REALTORS® must remain fully accountable for the information, advice and services they provide to clients.”

It doesn't invent new rules — it points at existing ones

The page names two provisions of the REALTOR® Code directly: Article 13 (Advertising – Content/Accuracy) and Article 15 (Advertising Claims). Read in full, Article 13 requires that “all Advertising and promotion of properties shall accurately reflect property and other details,” and Article 15 requires that any performance claim — a “#1” or “top-selling” representation — include “the geographical area referred to, the relevant time-frame... and the source or basis on which the claim is based,” and comply with “all applicable laws, including the Competition Act.” Those articles predate generative AI by years; CREA’s position is that they already cover it.

What it isn't

It is not binding provincial law, and it is not a substitute for whatever your own regulator has published. CREA is the national trade association; enforcement of its Code runs through boards, not through a licensing regulator's discipline process. See does your regulator have AI guidance for the provinces that have, or haven't, published a regulator-level equivalent, and must you tell clients you use AI for what CREA's transparency framing means in practice for a client conversation.

CREA also says it “is developing resources and best practices to help REALTORS® confidently and responsibly incorporate AI into their work” — read as written, that means today’s page is a starting position, not a finished playbook.
