Key takeaways
- →REMIC and MPC are two of FSRA's approved Level 1 and Level 2 providers, but their published hours, formats, and prices differ meaningfully.
- →REMIC's Level 1 exam is 50 multiple-choice questions with a 60% pass mark; its Level 2 exam uses the same 50-question format but a higher 70% pass mark.
- →MPC does not publish exam question-count or pass-mark figures for either its Level 1 or Level 2 Ontario course — that detail simply isn't published, so don't assume it matches REMIC's.
- →REMIC's own pages carry two different published price and hour figures for the same course — treat these as ranges and confirm current pricing directly with REMIC before enrolling.
REMIC and Mortgage Professionals Canada (MPC) are two of FSRA's approved providers at both the Level 1 and Level 2 stage, and they're the two most commonly compared. Their published hours, formats, exam structures, and prices don't match, though — and in REMIC's case, its own pages don't always agree with themselves.
This comparison uses only the figures each provider has published, side by side, without picking a winner. Where a provider hasn't published a detail — like an exam pass mark — that gap is called out rather than filled in.
01 · How do REMIC and MPC's Level 1 courses actually compare?
Both are FSRA-approved for Level 1 (see FSRA-approved course providers for the full list), so meeting the education requirement doesn't depend on which one you pick. The published details, though, differ:
| Detail | REMIC (RMAC) | MPC (Ontario Mortgage Agent Course) |
|---|---|---|
| Estimated hours | 47 hours (estimated) | ~40 hours online; in-class delivered over 5 consecutive weekdays or Saturdays, 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. |
| Format options | In-class, live webcast, online, or mixed mode | In-Class, Virtual Class, Online E-Text, Online Printed Text |
| Enrolment / completion window | One week up to 6 months | Must finish within 6 months of registering |
| Exam | 3 hours, in-person or online proctored; 50 multiple-choice questions (case-study based) | No exam question-count or pass-mark published |
| Passing grade | 60% (30/50) | Not published |
| Retake policy | 2 attempts — 1st free, 2nd paid (online or in-person) | Not published |
| Price (as published) | Online $358; Live Webcast $365; In-Class $445 — though REMIC's own FAQ elsewhere on the same page states a $338–$385 range; figures vary by page | In-Class $429; Virtual Class $429; Online E-Text $399; Online Printed Text $429 |
02 · How do REMIC and MPC's Level 2 Private Mortgages courses compare?
The same pattern holds at Level 2 — both providers are FSRA-approved for the Private Mortgages Course, and both publish different pricing and detail:
| Detail | REMIC (Private Mortgage Course) | MPC (Private Mortgages Course) |
|---|---|---|
| Estimated hours | 47 hours (estimated) per the course-summary box — though a separate “Online Option” box on the same REMIC page states 80 hours study time; figures vary by page | Not published |
| Enrolment / completion window | One week up to 1 year (both boxes agree on this) | Not published |
| Exam | 3 hours, in-person (when reinstated) or online proctored; 50 multiple-choice questions (case-study based) | Not published |
| Passing grade | 70% (35/50) | Not published |
| Retake policy | 2 attempts — 1st free, 2nd paid online or free in-person | Not published |
| Price (as published) | Online $298; Live Webcast $298 | In-Class, Virtual Class, and Online all priced the same: $329 Members / $399 Non-Members |
03 · Why does REMIC show two different prices for the same course?
REMIC's own pages carry two sets of figures for the same course, not one.
REMIC's own page doesn't agree with itself: the Level 1 course lists 2026 prices of $358 / $365 / $445 in one spot and a $338–$385 range in an FAQ elsewhere on the same page; the Level 2 course lists 47 estimated hours in its summary box and 80 hours of study time in a separate online-option box. Treat both as ranges, not firm numbers, and confirm current pricing and hours directly with REMIC before enrolling and paying.
Neither figure is necessarily wrong — course pricing and published hours change, and one section of a page can go stale faster than another. The point is not to treat either number as final.
Either course gets you licensed
What happens after the course is what actually compounds.
Whichever provider you choose, Treadstone's fulfillment associates and Canadian Mortgage Underwriting Course waitlist are both built for what comes after licensing, not instead of it.
04 · So which course should you actually choose?
Neither provider is objectively the “better” choice on these published figures alone — REMIC publishes more exam detail, MPC publishes clearer member and non-member pricing, and format availability (in-class vs. online vs. live webcast) will matter more to some applicants than others.
What comes after either course matters more for a career than which one you picked. Treadstone's Canadian Mortgage Underwriting Course builds the file-reading skill neither licensing course teaches, and our work with Canadian mortgage professionals is built around giving a newly licensed agent the hours to put that licence to work.
